NAVY SBIR IS NOW PART OF NAVALX
The Navy’s SBIR program provides funding to American small businesses that are working on technologies we need — engaging companies that want to be part of a national industrial base that supports both the military and private sectors.
How We Use SBIR
Through SBIR, qualified small businesses can receive non-dilutive capital to produce concepts or solutions that carry too much technical or market risk to attract private capital. NavalX activates the Navy SBIR program as part of our product development process. That means each SBIR topic we release connects to a priority problem we’re working to solve.
This is SBIR like you’ve never seen it. It’s more than a transactional contract. It is the starting point in the race for impact.

America's Seed Fund
The Navy SBIR program provides federal funding to ensure American small businesses are part of Naval research and development. SBIR is for companies with fewer than 500 employees that have technology — ranging from idea to prototype — with potential commercial applications.
Calls to Action
Three times each year, the DoN puts out Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) topics to give U.S. small businesses a chance to receive non-dilutive funding, refine their technology, and solve real Naval problems. We call these three periods "releases," and each release features new and focused challenges.
Funding Opportunities
Topics include a range of problems (and funding), but each offers the potential to develop your technology for the Department of the Navy. What does this mean to the innovator? NavalX can provide you with non-dilutive capital today and the potential for a sole-source contract in the next 5 years.
Have an Impact
This competitive, awards-based program helps small businesses with relevant dual-use technology explore their potential while supporting Naval priorities. All you need is a DUNS number — and the right ideas — to get going.
Approximately $2.5B is awarded through SBIR each year, with $1B awarded by the DoD.
